The Woman in Coach D" is an interesting psychological thriller which deals with issues such as friendship and trauma, cults. The tale unfolds in dynamic manner. Jenny, the legend, who has been grieved by the extraordinary vanishing of her dearest companion sixteen years sooner. Jenny’s boring life changes completely when out of nowhere she sees Susie, allegedly, on a train, an incident which sets in motion a series of shocking revelations from the past, including the cult, FREEDM.
Sarah A. Denzil is brilliant in the development of the characters within the story. It is fascinating to take note of that Max, a loathsome however miserable person who was at winds of manipulation. Jenny’s progression from an emotional wreck, who is crippled by anxiety, to one who is able to face her innermost fears is realistic and powerful. Such narratives leave the reader in anticipation as there are many unpredictable events in the course of the book.
Heavy themes of trauma, manipulation, and the search for identity are followed in this book. It also examines the psychological effects of cults which makes it quite interesting. It had some good pacing, balancing action suspense with emotional depth. I enjoyed the double timelines and perspectives, which added depth to the book, and therefore, the book kept me engrossed till the very last page. However, there not many occurrences I felt eased back on pace because of story's intricacy, with its various layers and characters, can overpower on occasion. Some readers could find it bit challenging to keep on track all detail. Regardless of, didn't influence the general insight of book.
The ending, though satisfying, does leave some questions dangling-especially about the fate of FREEDM and what exactly Jenny's long-term plans were. It could have been even better with a more conclusive ending. Furthermore, I have also noticed that only a few strong languages or terms were used in the book and thus may only be best for an adult reader to go through it.
The Woman in Coach D" is such fascinating read that highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers and suspense novels. If you like novels with elaboration of human relationships and trauma, even those touching on the underbelly of cult dynamics, this is the book for you. With skillful storytelling from Sarah A. Denzil and with complex characters, it is indeed gripping and one which will haunt you for a long while after you close the book. I'm giving this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
